Refered to as a silversmith in Richardson's Scrapbook (Newport Historical Society), but there are no other known references to his trade; it may be that he was simply confused with his brother. Flynt & Fales' Heritage Foundation Collection of Silver shows a mark of JAMES TANNER (partly defaced). ³
