• General. Trained as a silver bucklemaker in England, he came to Virginia in 1774 as an indentured servant. ⁴³

• He worked in 1774 as a silversmith in Battletown VA ⁴³

• He worked in 1775-1802 as a silversmith in Winchester VA ⁴³

• Partnership: Daniel Hartman, in 1802-1816, in Winchester VA. As HARTMAN & PHILLIPS. It would seem that Hartman, just 20 years old in 1802, was chiefly a financial, rather than a working partner. ⁴³
