  Events in his life were:

  • He worked circa 1889-1896 as a jeweler in Plainville MA for the firm of WADE & DAVIS. He originally hired on as an unskilled worker, but rapidly advanced as a designer.
  • Partnership: Edward Payson Davis, in 1896-1907, in Plainville MA. As WHITING & DAVIS.
  • His obituary was published in The Boston Globe on 10 Aug 1940 in Boston MA. Charles A. Whiting, 76, of 49 Central St., who rose from office boy to become owner of Whiting & Davis Company, Plainville manufacturers, died today at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, where he had undergone an operation for appendicitis.
    The funeral will be held at the Franklin Universalist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday.
    In 1880, at the age of 16, Whiting landed in Plainville with 25 cents in his pocket. He got a job as office boy with the Wade, Davis & Co., jewelry manufacturers. He worked as salesman and held executive berths until he became owner of the firm.
    The company is now known as Whiting & Davis, manufacturers of costume jewelry and mesh bags.
